Celebrating the Importance of Sociology

Hi Everyone!

This article shares a quick summary on our 2023 Student Essay Competition.

The theme of the competition is, “Why is Sociology Important?” and our generous sponsors this year were:

• Sociologists for Women in Society,
• Center for Equity Education,
• Azama Development Foundation, and
• Sociological Practice & Public Sociology (SPPS) – American Sociological Association (ASA).

We have officially published all of the award winning essays, but we want to take just a moment to recognize the outstanding winners of our competition. This year we awarded two first place prizes. These students were each awarded a $100 USD prize and their essays have been published to our website. The first place winners for our 2023 Student Essay Competition include Juan Villasmil from American University in the United States and Muhammad Abubakar Magayaki from Yobe State University in Nigeria.?
