Celebrating First-Generation College Students: GlobalMindED’s Leadership Program Empowers Future Leaders Through Networking, Mentorship, Employment


First-Generation College Celebration Day is an annual event honoring the achievements of first-generation college students. These students, the first in their families to pursue higher education, often face unique challenges. Yet, they persevere, breaking barriers and inspiring future generations. GlobalMindED connects First Gen Students to opportunities to expand their world through the GlobalMindED Inclusive Success Network.


??Celebrating First-Generation College Celebration Day is essential because it:


  • It acknowledges the hard work, dedication, and sacrifices of first-generation students and their families.


  • Motivates younger students to pursue higher education, regardless of their family's background.


  • Fosters a sense of community and support among first-generation students.


  • Highlights the need for increased support and resources for first-generation students.


How can we create a more inclusive and equitable higher education experience?


GlobalMindED empowers young leaders, particularly first-generation college students. Programs such as the First-Gen Leadership Pre-Conference Day provide invaluable resources, mentorship, and networking opportunities to help?students succeed.?Other impact initiatives include workshops, conferences, and mentorship programs, where participants gain the tools and confidence they need to navigate their academic and professional journeys outside of college.?


What is the Long-Term Impact of GlobalMindED's First-Generation Leadership??

??The following results span interviews with students from 2017 through 2023:

High Achievement Rates: An impressive 97% of students interviewed had graduated with at least an Associate's or Bachelor's degree, with many pursuing advanced degrees.



Successful Career Paths: A significant majority of participants (82%) were either actively employed or enrolled in further education. Moreover, 62% were working in fields directly related to their academic pursuits.



Positive Program Impact: A substantial 84% of students rated the First-Gen Leadership program highly, underscoring its effectiveness in fostering personal and professional growth.
