??Helping entrepreneurs scale their businesses with virtual assistant and outsourcing solutions.
At Virtudesk, spending time with our employees is the best way to celebrate growth, success, and family. This is the best way to reward them for their hard work.
People should feel comfortable and supported in their work environment, with close relationships and resources available to help them be successful.
Making a family-oriented culture is essential to us, and we were delighted to host Summer Con 2022 at Subic, Zambales, Philippines, last April 2022. It was a chance for us to bring together all of our US and Philippines staff, as well as our virtual assistants, for a fun-filled weekend—and an excellent opportunity to see what our company culture looks like when people get together outside of their workplace.
From my own experience as a business owner, I know that these activities can help every employee feel more connected to the company they work for—and make them happier overall!
The Importance of a Family-Oriented Workplace
At Virtudesk, we prioritize creating a family-friendly culture. That's why we come together as a team every year to celebrate our successes and holidays.
We do this because it's crucial to show your employees they are part of the team and their value goes beyond just being another number. This helps break down barriers among a largely remote workforce located worldwide, deepening relationships between coworkers.
Even though our team is located everywhere, we prioritize seeing each other in person at least once a year. This has fostered a company culture and community that nowhere else could have replicated.?
Seeing each other again is always a delight; it feels like no time has passed since we last saw each other. We discuss all that's happened in the intervening period, exchange updates on our current projects, and relish being in one another's company once more. It's practically magical!
When you have an event like this where you get together with your employees regularly, they'll start feeling like part of the family and work harder because they feel more invested in their work.?
If you're looking for ways to build a better culture in your company or improve employee engagement at work, consider hosting an event like this!
The benefits of these traditions are unique—not just for team morale but also for productivity and company culture as a whole.?
But the question is: what exactly does it mean to have a family-oriented culture at work? And how can your business benefit from it?

Improved Employee Engagement and Satisfaction
Families come first at many top companies, and there's a good reason. These businesses tend to outperform their peers because they have better employee relationships.
No matter what you do, your employees are your biggest asset. And if they're not engaged, they'll be less productive, less happy, and more likely to leave.
We know it's vital to offer a great work environment and ensure that our employees are content in their roles and feel like they're part of a larger community.
That's why we've implemented programs like team-building activities twice a year, 1-on-1 meetings with superiors every other month to talk about work and personal matters, and a friendly work environment where everyone can be themselves without fear of judgment or retribution.
The well-being of your employees should always be kept in mind as it is just important as yours or your clients. If you want a successful business, you need workers who feel appreciated and happy with their job, which requires open communication about things like family life and hobbies outside work hours.
Improved Productivity
A family-oriented work culture comes with a plethora of benefits, one of the most crucial being an uptick in productivity. When staff members feel comfortable within their work setting, they can be more productive than if factors outside their control routinely stress them.
In fact, according to research conducted by economists at the University of Warwick, happiness contributed to a 12% increase in production, whereas unhappy people were 10% less productive.
Because our workplace is family-oriented, we've found that employees are more productive when they have flexible schedules. If employees need time off, we don't punish them by taking away pay or benefits. Instead, we try to be understanding and accommodating.
The more productive your employees are, the better for your business!
The Key Takeaway
A family-oriented workplace is necessary for success in today's business world—especially during this time of high resignation rates.
A family-friendly workplace creates a culture of togetherness in which employees can be proud to work. Hard workers will feel appreciated and see the importance of their contributions, leading to increased productivity.
Not only is having a family-oriented workplace an intelligent way for business owners to look after the needs of their employees, but it also opens doors to great success.
If you leverage these advantages for your business, you will gain a competitive advantage over your less human-centric peer competitors—and that’s what we all want in the long run.
