Celebrating Extraordinary Women
Jeremy Blank
Deloitte US Tax Chief Strategy Officer and Global Tax Advisory Solutions Leader
Women’s History Month is a time to celebrate the achievements of women. In my role as Managing Partner for 德勤 ’s Greater Washington practice, I have the privilege of working with extraordinary people. I am without question a better leader because of these extraordinary professionals. In honor of Women’s History Month and this past International Woman’s Day, I would like to share the stories of two of these incredible people: Heather Reilly and Lissa Perez .
Heather Reilly joined Deloitte in 2009 as a senior manager; she’s now a principal in Deloitte Consulting LLP and is the Government & Public Services Markets Leader, where she works across our GPS sectors to grow our market share and increase our client impact by turning disruption into opportunity - by embracing new markets, technologies, and business models.
Heather is passionate about using her abilities and resources to help people grow and thrive - especially those who might not have had many advantages or opportunities. “I try to challenge the status quo along the way, and to be creative and bold in how we reimagine what’s possible,” she says. Heather is actively involved in Upwardly Global, a nonprofit that helps immigrants and refugees with international credentials restart their careers in the United States, and with Deloitte’s Refugee Community of Interest, which aims to provide smart migration solutions across the refugee resettlement process to governments, NGOs, and companies. She is also involved with Project Pink Tax, a nonprofit that helps people in need obtain sufficient menstrual products.
Heather draws inspiration from her family as well as her fellow leaders at Deloitte – particularly the women around her who have shaped her journey. “They have made me, and others, others feel seen, confident, strong, and able,” Heather says. “A leader’s ability to use personal capital and influence to amplify others is a true kindness.”
Lissa Perez is an Audit & Assurance partner at Deloitte & Touche LLP and has been with Deloitte for 32 years. A graduate of Miami University of Ohio,?Lissa started her career in Deloitte’s Cincinnati office, where she became a partner in 2001. During her career at Deloitte, she’s relocated to several offices including Brussels, Belgium, Nashville, Tenn.; Wilton, Conn., and most recently, Washington, D.C. In addition to her role as an Audit & Assurance partner, Lissa serves as the Deloitte Private Audit & Assurance Leader for Greater Washington and National Client Accelerators, which is focused on boards as well as c-suite roles.
Lissa has served on the board of The Women’s Center, a nonprofit focused providing mental health counseling, support and education, for more than 10 years and is currently the organization’s treasurer. Around the end of year holidays, Lissa and a friend co-lead The Wish List Project, which helps donors meet holiday-related needs and asks of children at shelters, schools, and nonprofits. Lissa has also been involved with United Way for her entire career. “In each office or city I’ve lived in, I’ve always been proactive in getting involved in the community, particularly organizations that are focused on girls and women,” says Lissa, who has three children, including twin daughters.
Lissa draws inspiration from her engagement teams. “I continue to be amazed and energized by our talented professionals,” she says.
