Celebrating the Essence of Tamil Nadu: Pongal and New year Festivities at SNS College of Technology
January 4, 2025, was a day of double celebrations at SNS College of Technology as the campus came alive with the spirit of the New Year and the rich traditions of Pongal, Tamil Nadu’s cherished harvest festival. The event brought together students, faculty, and staff for a memorable day filled with joy, cultural pride, and togetherness.
The festivities began in a beautifully adorned venue, where the energy of the New Year seamlessly blended with the traditions of Pongal. The morning’s highlight was the ritual cooking of Pongal, a traditional dish prepared with rice, milk, and jaggery. Surrounded by cheerful participants, the pot overflowed as everyone enthusiastically chanted “Pongalo Pongal,” a symbolic gesture of abundance and prosperity.
The celebrations continued with an array of cultural programs that showcased the vibrant spirit of the community. Graceful classical dance performances and soul-stirring folk music highlighted the significance of the festival and the rich traditions of Tamil Nadu. Students also displayed their artistic skills with colorful Kolam (rangoli) designs, which added a festive touch to the occasion. The day’s charm was elevated by a traditional bullock cart ride, a nod to Tamil Nadu’s agrarian heritage, which delighted attendees and transported them back to their cultural roots. Faculty members and students, dressed in traditional attire, wholeheartedly participated, adding to the joyful atmosphere.
