Celebrating Entrepreneurs with Steve Case, CEO of Revolution – Episode 21 of “Chambers Talks: A Podcast Series with John Chambers”
Excited to share my latest podcast with someone who knows innovation, startups and public-private partnerships, my good friend of nearly 30 years Steve Case , Chairman & CEO of Revolution .?I’ve long believed that startups will be the core driver of economic growth, job creation, and innovation in the future. As such, I also believe that it is our responsibility as leaders to foster and support the next generation of entrepreneurs and dreamers. This is a passion Steve and I share.
?
Much of Steve’s career has been spent building networks. Back in the early days of the Internet, Steve pioneered making the Internet part of everyday life as the co-founder of AOL, before people even realized the ways our lives and connections would be forever changed by this new technology. Today, Steve’s team at Revolution is on a mission to build networks of entrepreneurs in communities across the U.S. and back companies with breakout potential.
?
As he shares in his #RiseOfRestBook, Steve spent the better half of the last decade touring the country in a bus – much like he did in the late 80s to tout the benefits of being online with AOL. During that time, he realized that communities across America weren’t lacking entrepreneurs or innovation – they were lacking capital and connections. In an effort to level the playing field, Steve worked to connect people, encourage risk taking, and promote collaboration, no matter where a startup might be headquartered. To date, Revolution has backed more than 200 startups in over 100 different cities and Steve is laser-focused on getting more capital to more people in more places in the future.
?
Driving the next wave of startup creation outside of the coastal tech hubs is something Steve calls “both a problem that needs to be solved and an opportunity that needs to be seized.” By #CelebratingEntrepreneurs in every part of the country – not just in hubs like California or New York, but also places like Michigan, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and my home state of West Virginia – Steve believes we can propel America forward and continue to lead the world in innovation. This conversation holds great insights for leaders on how to navigate the current economic environment, how businesses can work with government leaders, how to build innovation networks, and more. If you enjoy this conversation as much as I did, leave “Chambers Talks: A Podcast Series with John Chambers” a 5-star review – and don’t forget to subscribe!
