Celebrating Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion through Pride Month
Last month we announced being named one of “America’s Greatest Workplaces for Diversity” in 2023 by?Newsweek . We are proud of this accomplishment. As a company, we have long prioritized fostering diversity, equity, and inclusion throughout our lines of business.
The pandemic has shown us that, in our interdependent world, no one is safe until everyone is safe. The crisis uprooted existing assumptions about addressing worker safety, health, and well-being and doing it more holistic way.
Historically these activities were primarily siloed. Workplace safety programs focused on designing work to protect workers from physical harm, and HR championed wellness and well-being. Like many companies, we have strived to integrate the two fields—protecting and promoting health—because they work together in a single workplace.
The conversation has changed around workers’ classic social issues like childcare, sick leave, disability issues, and overall wellness challenges like mental health and work-life balance. These issues are important to acknowledge because employees want to work for companies that see them as people, not workers; jobs provide an exceptional life experience, not just work, and they want to feel cared for and valued.
The Importance of Pride and DE&I
June offers a month-long celebration of Pride every year, a time dedicated to uplifting and celebrating the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ+) community, and it is commemorated with rainbow flags, large parades, and marches.
The recognition of Pride, however, is rooted in the history of the LGBTQ+ community’s struggle to achieve equal justice and opportunity. The global community has made significant progress on LGBTQ+ rights, but the fight for equity is far from over. Many still face daily prejudice based on their sexual orientation, gender identity, race, ethnicity, or religion.?
Consider the following statistics from Catalyst’s 2022 LGBTQ+ Workplace Issues: Quick Take report:
Diversity, equity, and inclusion matter because?people matter.?For companies to evolve, innovate, and problem-solve, workplaces must welcome individuals with diverse backgrounds, experiences, and perspectives that bring new ideas. There’s also a clear business case for it. More diverse organizations are more?successful?and likely to outperform their competitors.?
Many feel like something is missing from the DE&I equation; it’s belonging. As human beings, one of our deepest desires is to belong. We all want to feel seen, heard and understood.?

Belonging is a powerful force that helps employees see how they fit into a company’s goals and vision on every level. As employers seek new and better ways to hire and retain workers in one of human history’s tightest labor markets, a shared sense of belonging can make or break their culture.
