Did you know that 1 in 4 adults in the U.S. have a disability? Disabilities can take many forms, and Employee Resource Groups (ERGs) play a crucial role in creating inclusive workplaces. Ninety-eight percent of companies on Fair360's 2024 Top 50 list have ERGs for people with disabilities.
Disability Pride Month is a global celebration that highlights the contributions of people with disabilities. We can all contribute by educating ourselves, advocating for inclusive policies and participating in awareness campaigns.
Lauren Ridloff, a disability advocate and actress, underscores the importance of recognizing the multifaceted nature of people with disabilities:
“It is so important to showcase people with disabilities with intersectional identities because that allows viewers to see beyond disability …. People with disabilities are multilayered—we are complex breathing human beings defined by more than just what we lack.”
Let’s embrace the identities of people with disabilities, celebrate their contributions and work toward building more inclusive communities.
