Celebrating Community and Creativity: The First Western Sydney Sunnyfield Carnival
Sunnyfield Disability Services
Supporting brighter futures for people with disability through choice, opportunities and skills for life
The inaugural Sunnyfield Carnival was a resounding success, bringing together nearly 150 clients, staff, families, and friends from Great Western Sydney for a day filled with joy, connection, and creativity. This vibrant event was not just a festival; it was an opportunity for our community to unite, create lasting memories, and strengthen social bonds.
The Purpose Behind the Carnival
At Sunnyfield, we believe in the power of community. The Carnival was organised with a not-for-profit intention, with proceeds from entry fees, raffles, and cake sales going towards our Parramatta hub to help cover event expenses. “It was about more than just fundraising. We celebrated with our clients and fostered a sense of belonging.” Davina, Parramatta Community Hub Manager, commented.
A Day of Fun and Engagement
The day was packed with activities that catered to everyone’s interests. From face painting and art corners to dance-offs and a colourful run, participants showcased their talents and creativity. The laughter shared over costumes and the joy experienced in each activity highlighted the spirit of the event. Seeing clients engage in leadership roles, volunteer their time, and develop new friendships was inspiring.
One attendee noted, "The weeks of anticipation were?worth every moment." The positive feedback we received the following day confirmed that the Carnival had a lasting impact on everyone involved.
Building a Stronger Community
One of the most heartwarming outcomes of the Carnival was witnessing clients reconnecting with friends and making new ones. The event transformed our six hubs and one enterprise into a tightly-knit community, reinforcing the importance of connection and belonging.
Looking ahead, Western Sydney Regional Manager Amira Salama has already expressed enthusiasm for next year’s Carnival! We are excited to brainstorm new ideas, including the potential addition of baby farm animals to enhance the experience for our clients.
Looking to the Future
At Sunnyfield, we are committed to creating opportunities for our hubs to collaborate and celebrate together. Events like the Carnival highlight our community's creativity and foster a spirit of togetherness that we cherish.
Here’s to many more unforgettable memories and a stronger Sunnyfield Community in the future!
