Celebrating Christmas with Confidence

Celebrating Christmas with Confidence

We’re only a couple of weeks away from Christmas now, and you know what that means? Shorter work deadlines, meet-ups with people you may not have seen for quite a while, special events and of course all the gift-buying.

Keep that last part in mind, because I may be able to help you (at least with your own!).

Where Did The Time Go?

Now whilst Christmas is often labelled ‘the most wonderful time of the year’ – there’s a lot of stress and overwhelm that can come along with it. Perhaps you’re worried about money this year? Perhaps you are concerned about the family dynamics and potential arguments on Christmas Day.

Maybe you’ve been invited to a work do or family do and asked to make a speech.

If it does, then here’s where my gift comes in – confidence. Now, unfortunately, I can’t give you a physical present filled with self-confidence. I would if I could because how easy would that be?

However, what I can guarantee to you is that confidence is not something that is as difficult to gain as you may believe, and whilst the power is in your hands, I can give you some guidance.

How to Gain Confidence

First, you need to stop thinking about why you’re NOT confident and ask yourself why you SHOULD be. People with high self-esteem are never pessimistic, the glass is always half-full. They focus on all the reasons why something will work, not on why it won’t. So shift your focus.

I have a Tony Robbins quote in my head – “People who fail?focus?on what they have to go through; people who succeed?focus?on what it will feel like at the end.”

Reflect on your previous achievements, what you like about yourself, and any small or big wins you’ve had recently.

As you practice focusing on your positives, you will start to feel more confident. And what follows is that gradually over time this becomes your new norm. And when you are confident in yourself, being positive doesn’t require any effort, it comes naturally.

How Your Confidence Comes Across To Others

You can continue this ‘acting as if’ with your physicality. Make time for self-care, wear your nicest clothes more often, and keep your body language open. Smile and make eye contact with others. Pretend you are confident and your brain will develop new pathways, and other people will react to your new persona of confidence.

And when someone compliments you, don’t brush it off – accept it. When you say, ‘Oh no, I’m really not’ you’re deflecting as if the statement isn’t true, which then makes you believe it to not be true as well. It feels better for both people involved when you’re able to accept something good about yourself!

Don’t Face Uncertainty This Year!

With Christmas approaching, confidence is crucial. When people surround you, you want to make a good impression and you want to radiate positivity, right?

It’s understandable that the long to-do lists and end-of-year approaching could be impacting your self-esteem, which is why we will be sharing our top tips over the next few weeks counting down towards Christmas about the biggest confidence builder there is – public speaking.
