Cheers to Friday, LinkedIn community. If you're still thinking about our recent C-Suite Awards luncheon, you're not alone.

The event recognized influential C-suite executives (except CEOs) who have led their companies to success. Twenty local executives were honored this year. Honorees held titles such as chief operating officer and chief financial officer.

It was a big week for many young professionals in the Sacramento region. That's because we revealed our 40 Under 40 honorees for 2024.

The honorees represent industries such as hospitality, engineering, banking, health care and legal services. Stay tuned for details about our big party on Oct. 24.

Rio City Cafe closing in Old Sacramento

After 30 years operating on the Old Sacramento Waterfront, family-owned restaurant Rio City Cafe is permanently closing.

Rio City Cafe opened at 1110 Front St. in Sacramento in 1994. The restaurant's menu focuses on American cuisine, specializing in meats and seafood. The business announced on social media this week that its last day of service will be Aug. 3.

"This was in no way an easy decision, but due to multiple factors, sadly, we realize it is time to say our goodbyes," the business wrote in the announcement. Read more


UC Davis health breaks ground on $3.74 billion project

UC Davis Health is starting construction on its massive $3.74 billion new hospital tower in Sacramento.

The health system celebrated a groundbreaking Monday for the California Tower, the 14-story, 334-bed addition to the west side of UC Davis Medical Center that’s expected to open in 2030.

“This project will position our researchers, students, faculty and staff to meet and adapt to regional health care needs for the next 50 years,” UC Davis Chancellor Gary S. May said, in a statement.

Company's El Dorado Hills HQ set for online auction

Less than two years after buying its headquarters building in El Dorado Hills, apparel company SlideBelts is putting it on the market.

LoopNet's Ten-X auction arm has the 58,316-square-foot office complex at 5272 Robert J. Mathews Parkway listed for an online auction beginning Aug. 26.

"We partnered with Ten-X because of the power of their digital transaction process and their ability to reach national buyers," SlideBelts President Brig Taylor said in an email. "We're simply motivated to get a deal done in order to fund other investments."

Big Lots closing 5 Sacramento-area stores

In its quarterly report filed in June, discount retailer Big Lots said it?expected to shutter 35 to 40 stores this year. Now, the local impact of those planned closures is coming into focus.

Five of the eight Big Lots stores in the Sacramento area will close, according to those stores' websites. Read my article to learn more.

First: After nearly five years in business, a locally owned wine bar in Roseville's Fairway Plaza has closed. Read more
