Celebrating Apollo 11's 50th
This year, 2019, is the 50th anniversary of the historic Apollo 11 space mission.
The NASA crew launched from Cape Kennedy on July 16, 1969 with Commander Neil Armstrong, Command Module Pilot Michael Collins and Lunar Module Pilot Edwin "Buzz" Aldrin aboard. Their mission from the president was to perform a crewed lunar landing and return to earth.
Armstrong and Aldrin spent 21 hours, 36 minutes on the moon's surface after piloting and landing the lunar module known as Eagle. Collins piloted an orbiting spacecraft known as Columbia waiting for their return.
Armstrong and Aldrin gathered samples, took photographs, deployed a television camera, transmitted signals to Earth, deployed scientific equipment, and shot motion picture film. Eagle and Columbia successfully docked in lunar orbit and the crew returned to Earth on July 24, 1969 with splashdown 400 miles SSW of Wake Island in the Pacific Ocean.
Interestingly, the Apollo 11 mission (crew) patch design - which was designed by the commander and crew and approved by Washington - does not feature the astronauts last names. Reportedly, Collins said it was because they wanted the design to be representative of everyone who had worked toward a lunar landing.
If you are planning an Apollo 11 celebration this year, A-B Emblem may be able to help you make it more memorable for your guests. The company is an official contractor to NASA and offers space patches and pins including Apollo 11 on header cards.

5 年John, Thank you for sharing this milestone in the history of America and A-B's part in it. My dad worked at the (then) NASA tracking station in Balsam Grove and I seem to remember him bringing a patch depicting the Eagle and the moon. Didn't realize it was sewn so close by. Cool!
