Celebrating the American Worker

Labor Day is often viewed as the ‘official’ end of summer weekend. It’s the long weekend we frantically try to cram all of our final vacations, work holiday and lash hoorahs before we buckle down to the final push professionally in the year.

This is one of those holidays that means so much more.

You are probably aware that Labor Day celebrates the American worker. This holiday was recognized by politicians but conceived by 2 men who were leaders within Unions and Trade organizations. We didn’t always have the freedoms we enjoy today as American workers. Right now the tides have shifted and workers hold many of the bargaining chips, in some cases you are seeing businesses close because they can’t hire workers to serve their customers.

We haven’t always enjoyed an 8 hour work day, or had limits of a 40 hour work week, or had a requirement of breaks and time to rest during your shift.

This happened due to an organized effort of leaders who brought about change, and from this, we have evolved into one of the most economically successful countries in the world. Yes, we have our share of problems and not all is perfect, but by far, we’re the best game in town.

I believe we are due for another Renaissance movement in the workforce.

Businesses are struggling to adapt to the ‘new normal’.

I have to say that term’s feeling a little old because the new normal shifts every day.

Leaders are desperately needed to support companies making the necessary changes, streamlining operations and implementing systems to make work easier for the limited work force, fun again for people to come to the office and recognize the key team members who really make it happen.

Personally I feel that the days of a talented leader working 40 hours per week for one employer is not only limiting for the employee, but also the employer.

With the systems we have access to today and understanding of lean and process improvement, more with less is a concept that applies to your talent as well.

Fractional services offer the perfect blend of access to high quality talent while also providing the solution to the leadership gap experienced by business today. The ability for business leaders to utilize systems and build their own team that can ‘plug and play’ within specific niches is game changing.

Timing has never been better to reimagine work.

We truly are playing an infinite game in the workplace today.

Your options are only limited by your thinking.
