Celebrating Academic Excellence with Bank of Ceylon’s 'Nanajaya' Scholarships worth more than Rs. 30 Million

At the Bank of Ceylon, we understand that the future of our nation lies in the hands of our youth. This belief drives our commitment to nurturing young talent through our annual 'Nanajaya' Higher Education Scholarship programme.

On July 26, 2024, we celebrated the academic achievements of Sri Lanka's brightest students at the Bank of Ceylon Head Office Auditorium. The ceremony honored the top performers of the 2022 GCE Advanced Level Examination for the 2022/2023 academic year. It was a momentous occasion, graced by the presence of our Chairman Mr. Kavan Ratnayaka, General Manager/CEO Mr.? Russel Fonseka, Corporate and Executive management with staff members, scholarship holders and their parents.

This year, we awarded 383 scholarships worth over 30 million rupees to students excelling in key subjects: Biology, Physical science, Commerce, Arts, Bio System technology, and? Engineering technology . These scholarships are more than financial aid; they are an investment in the potential and future of our nation’s youth, helping them pursue their academic and professional dreams.

Since its inception in 2003, the 'Nanajaya' Scholarship programme has awarded over 139 million rupees to over 3100 students. These scholarships are highly regarded among university students, especially those achieving the highest Z-scores in the GCE Advanced Level Examination's six main streams. The programme's merit scholarships, worth 120,000 rupees, are awarded to the top national performers, while common scholarships, worth of? 72,000 rupees, recognize district-level achievers. This dual approach ensures that talented students from all corners of Sri Lanka receive the support they need to succeed.

However our commitment to education doesn’t stop there. We recognize that the path to success requires more than just financial support. Through our 'Nanajaya' Carrier Guidance programme, in collaboration with the Department of Manpower and Employment, we provide GCE Ordinary Level and Advanced Level students with the resources and guidance they need to make informed decisions about their education and career paths. This initiative empowers students to explore their options and pursue careers that align with their passions and skills.
