Celebrating 5th Work anniversary with R1rcm
Five long years, yes it is true! Half of a decade passed already, day to day...Life goes on so quickly, we don't even realize it.
It’s a big achievement, a major milestone, and it’s one of the most important relationships I’ve had since 2018, and surprisingly it’s with #r1rcm .
5 years. A little less a sixth of my life, and more than 60℅ of my career. It’s been a journey I’ve relished every minute of.
I’ve been in US Healthcare 'RCM'- Industry for almost 8 years. 5 years ago, I was a young man and thought I knew a lot, I didn’t, and I still don’t, I’m still learning despite practicing for so long, but the last 5 years with R1 has really been the making of me. I put that down to working with the right company. It’s all about the fit. Finding that right fit for the organisation is something that’s close to my heart. I’m lucky to find that with R1 for myself.
Today, I don't want to tell you stuff about my job, how much I like it, how my work environment is, how my colleagues are, and so on... I am not writing you a story (although I'd love to ;??)Today, I am celebrating! Celebration is sharing, so I'd like to tell you a few lessons I’ve learned along the way…
Everything you studied , and all the nights you spent preparing for your 'extremely complex’ exams are, unfortunately, NOT ENOUGH: no matter what college you went to or what degree you have or what grades you used to get, or how many hours/days you spent studying.. Fact of the matter is: there is still more to be learnt, and there always will be. You need to be very humble and hardworking. Passion for what you do is a catalyst!
What you know and how you put it into practice are two totally different stories: you may know all the processes, all the theories and rules that need to be applied. However, the real world does 'stuff' differently, and needless to mention that these processes get adapted to the context of each organisation. Don't be confused, you can still take advantage of knowing what you know, you just need to bring theory down to practice! Not hard, you'll see!!!
You gain experience over time. When you are getting into an organisation for the first time, you are like a student again. Learning starts at the bottom and you need to be okay with this. Years of work build experience, and that's one thing your diplomas cannot replace... Even if you think the stairs are tiring, you can't take the elevator !!

Build the Right team – For me as a leader- Building the right team is the only key. And delegating to give people more autonomy is a powerful motivator. As a leader, you can take a laissez-faire approach and hope the team wires well over time. Building the right culture within the team is equally important.
Give Credit Away: Always give credit away for your success (of a project, task or any other accomplishment) to your team, your peers, colleagues or anyone else. This only helps you grow further. It is never, “I did it†– It is always, He did it, she did it, they did it!
Hell Yes to Fail: There will be situations when you are new to the tons of responsibilities you are accounted for. It will take you some time to realize that you are in fact allowed to make mistakes and fail in order to learn. This will only get out of your comfort zone and let you experiment how to be better at what you do. And that's what helps you build the experience. Do come across as someone who is in control!
Having a mentor is mandatory: Lastly and most importantly, finding a mentor, someone who is vested in your growth is very important. Someone who appreciates the BIG dream and doesn’t think that they can’t be realised, someone who trust that you can and you will. Finding the right mentors seems overwhelming to begin with, but trust me, you find them. I have worked at three organisations thus far and I can proudly say that I have got three mentors (yes, I am in touch with all of them) who are still contributing to my success and I bet they enjoy watching it happen.
I’ve got a lot to thank R1 I met some of my very close friends here, all people with the same vision and goals. I’d like to thank a lot of people personally for everything they’ve done for me over the last 5 years. It’s been a wonderful journey that has been a privilege to share with you. Thank you & here’s to the next 5!
