Celebrating 300 years of San Antonio at RIMS 2018
RIMS 2018 will be held from April 15 to 18 in San Antonio, Texas. It is the first time that the city with the famous River Walk is hosting this conference. RIMS is always a great opportunity to learn the latest market trends and innovations and to stay connected or meet new people. But it is also a wonderful way to explore another US city. And I am really looking forward to learn more about this Texan city that celebrates its 300th birthday in May, one month after RIMS.
San Antonio's 300-year history began in May 1718 with the founding of the San Antonio de Béxar Presidio and Mission San Antonio de Valero (now known as the Alamo - see above photo). My first memory of San Antonio is watching the John Wayne movie The Alamo on television as a child, an epic war film about the 1836 Battle for the Alamo. In 1982, San Antonio made headlines again, when Ozzy Osbourne visited the famous site. Ozzy in San Antonio ... but that's a different story.
In 2018, San Antonio is the seventh most populous city in the United States. It is home to the five-time NBA Champion San Antonio Spurs. San Antonio is also noticeable for its vibrant music scene. Christopher Cross and Steve Earle are amongst the famous sons of the city and rumor has it that ZZ Top will be in town during RIMS. Let's see...
In the past couple of years, I had the pleasure of visiting San Antonio on several occasions. Marsh USA has its central Multinational Client Service (MCS) team located there. A great team which looks after a large number of foreign direct investment (or 'incoming') clients from around the world. The one thing I remember best from my visits is the great hospitality of the San Antonians, wonderful meals with plenty of comfort food - BBQ, Tex-Mex, Steaks - included.
As every year, Marsh will operate its legendary Marsh Cafe at the convention centre (Hall B of the HenryB. González Center), from Monday (April 16) until Wednesday (April 18). A great place to meet and greet clients, prospects, insurers, colleagues and other business partners. We expect several Marsh colleagues from around the world to attend so this is a good opportunity to meet in person and discuss multinational topics. If you happen to be in town, make sure to visit us, Marsh at RIMS at the Marsh Café.
Last but not least, some practical advice prior to your visit to San Antonio. Major faux pas to avoid in San Antonio ... and remember the Alamo!
Looking forward to seeing you at the Alamo, the River Walk or at the Marsh Café. Go Big! at RIMS 2018
