Celebrating 25 Years of the Barbara Almond Memorial Garden

This summer marks the 25th anniversary of the Barbara Almond Memorial Garden at First Presbyterian Church, a cherished space often referred to as the Courtyard. This beautiful garden was envisioned and brought to life by Billy Almond, WPL Principal Landscape Architect, in memory of his mother, Barbara Almond. Many members of the church community supported the development of the garden 25 years ago, contributing to what has become an essential and beloved part of the church's grounds.

The Courtyard has played a vital role in the life of First Presbyterian Church, especially during challenging times like the Covid-19 pandemic. It provided a safe, open-air environment for outdoor worship services, Sunday School, weddings, and baptisms, allowing the congregation to maintain their sense of community and faith. The garden continues to be a hub for post-worship receptions, Sunday lunches, coffee and donut gatherings, meetings, and children's Sunday School classes.

"The Courtyard celebrates its 25th anniversary this summer! This project was the vision of Billy Almond in memory of his mother, Barbara, and many supported the development of the courtyard 25 years ago. This beautiful space was such an important addition to our church," the Church noted.

WPL and Billy Almond have continuously dedicated themselves to maintaining and enhancing this special space. Recently, Billy and his wife, Molly Almond, donated beautiful white impatiens, adding a fresh burst of summer color to the flower beds.

The church thanked the Almonds, saying, "Have you noticed the beautiful new white impatiens in our Courtyard flower beds? Many thanks to Billy and Molly Almond for the gift of these flowers that beautify our Courtyard for the summer months."

As the church celebrates this milestone, everyone is encouraged to take a moment to visit the Barbara Almond Memorial Garden. Reflect on its beauty, remember the love and care that went into its creation, and give thanks for the blessings it continues to bring to the community. Here's to many more years of joy and tranquility in this cherished garden.
