Celebrating 25 Years of the Audi TT: A Journey Through Three Generations

As we bid farewell to an icon, the Audi TT, we take a moment to commemorate its 25th anniversary and reflect on the three generations that captured our hearts. At Mon Motors, we have a special affinity for this plucky contender, and we believe it deserves a grand send-off. Therefore, we were lucky enough to get all three generations together for one afternoon at Bath Audi. A timely celebration as the Isle of Man motorbike race is underway of which the TT draws its name. Stemming from the event race known as the “Tourist Trophy”, a race that NSU (one of the brands that formed to become the Auto Union) has been involved with in the past.

First Generation (1998-2006):

The first-generation Audi TT made an unforgettable entrance onto the automotive scene. Its iconic and easily identifiable silhouette, coupled with unique styling elements, like the placement of the fuel cap and central exhausts, made it an instant head-turner. But the Audi TT was not just about looks. It introduced new innovations, such as the revolutionary S-Tronic/DSG gearbox and had a great choice of engines including the brilliant 3.2 V6 engine. The first-generation Audi TT was a tremendous success, capturing the hearts of many enthusiasts and achieving remarkable sales figures in the UK. Including some special edition models like the quattro Sport where there were only 800 right-hand drive models in the UK.

The car featured with us today is one kindly provided by Barry Russell our Aftersales Manager. The quattro sport carries the enhanced body kind found on the 3.2 models, a huge weight reduction mainly by the removal of the back seats among other stuff and where identifiable with the distinctive two-tone colour combination. The Car also received a?performance upgrade to the 1.8 engine.

Second Generation (2006-2014):

In the second generation, the Audi TT continued to captivate with its sleek design and desirable upgrades. It grew slightly larger, providing a more spacious interior. Technological advancements included the availability of sat nav and the introduction of diesel engines, expanding the model's appeal. This generation also witnessed the debut of the S and RS models, adding even more excitement to the TT lineup. Additionally, Audi incorporated more aluminium body parts, reducing weight and enhancing performance. The second-generation Audi TT set new standards and solidified its position as a benchmark in its class.

The model featured was one of the early market introduction cars and has the Automatic gearbox and 3.2 V6 quattro. Supplied by Chris Whelton our Group Marketing Manager. One of the last models to offer the 3.2 V6 engine.

Third Generation (2014-present):

With the third generation, the Audi TT exuded confidence and took a bold step forward. Its aggressive body styling showcased a perfect blend of modern aesthetics and nods to the original model. Inside the cabin, the focus shifted towards the driver, creating an immersive experience. For the first time, the iconic Audi rings adorned the bonnet, a styling cue shared only with the prestigious Audi R8. Technological advancements continued with the introduction of the Virtual Cockpit, which quickly became a hallmark feature across the Audi range. Notable special editions, such as the 20th-anniversary edition and limited-run RS models, further enhanced the exclusivity and desirability of the third-generation Audi TT.

The model featured here is a 20th?Anniversary model where only 999 were supplied into the market. Finished in Arrow grey this was decked with luxurious tan leather ‘Baseball seats’ paying tribute to the 1st generation. This model at the time of posting is available for sale at Bath Audi.

Such a shame that the TT is coming to an end. An iconic car, I an on my third TT and would highly recommend one. Recently a Lorry drove into me at speed, the 2018 TT did its job and I got out just with muscular injuries, very well made cars and sad to see the end of them. Mon Motors Group I would also recommend, have bought from them previously and would again.
