Celebrating 10 years of Discovery Insure with new products, offers and enhancements
2021 is a very special year for all of us at Discovery Insure – it’s our 10th anniversary of bringing clients the very best in innovative and rewarding short-term insurance.
Every year we enhance our offering with new and improved innovative products and benefits. And this year is no exception - this week we unveiled an array of launch products and enhancements in celebration of 10 years of applying Shared-value insurance to the short-term industry and rewarding clients for good driving.
By applying Shared-value to the short-term insurance industry ten years ago, Discovery Insure became the first telematics-based vehicle insurer in the market, offering a unique and important core purpose to South Africans: to Create a nation of great drivers! It was a daring and bold ambition.
At the centre of our Shared-value Insurance model is Vitality Drive, our incentive-based driver behaviour programme that rewards clients for driving well.
10 years on, and our clients are still receiving exceptional value through the programme. I am also proud to share that by incentivising good driving behaviour, the business is able to report a road accident fatality rate of 13 per 100 000, which is 40% lower than the South African road accident fatality rate.
This is thanks to powerful rewards such as our 50% fuel cash back benefit – and we very recently reached the milestone of paying clients over R1 billion in their fuel spend back.
All this has led to Discovery Insure being able to drive exceptional growth as a differentiator in the market. Ten years on, we have become the fastest growing short-term insurer in South Africa. The incredible results thus far achieved, largely due to the success of the Vitality Drive programme, has resulted in an extensive product platform that covers both commercial and personal lines.
I am excited to share our latest product and benefit enhancements across personal and commercial lines, which we know will ensure comprehensive protection for our clients in the coming months ahead, as well as every member of their families. We will be rolling out the below during the next few months, starting from April.
Here is a summary of what clients can expect in 2021 from Discovery Insure:
For this year’s launch our Personal Lines offering focusses on providing improved safety for clients and their families, while still being as rewarding as ever before.
- Special offer for new Discovery Insure clients – In order to encourage more South Africans to be part of creating a nation of great drivers, all new clients who achieve Vitality Drive Gold status can get 50% of their first six vehicle premiums back if they join Discovery Insure from 1 April 2021 to 30 June 2021.
- Enhanced car seat discounts of up to 50% to keep the young ones safely secured while being mobile;
- Introduced the Discovery Insure Driving Academy - 3 state-of-the-art driving simulators at our head office (1 Discovery Place in Johannesburg);
- Additional protection with Motion Alert i.e. notifying a client that their vehicle is being driven without their phone present.

For Discovery Business Insurance clients, we tailored business insurance solutions for select industries.
- For Restaurant owners, we are now offering bespoke business insurance cover, including embedded benefits like protection for business interruption, crisis and reputation management, as well as cover for cyber risks and accidental damage to point-of-sale devices.
- Various professions and occupations have been impacted and affected by the COVID-19 pandemic in unique ways and we have decided to respond to our clients’ calls for tailored solutions that address the extra risks that the pandemic and Lockdown have introduced. Healthcare professionals, Accountants and Lawyers are now able to get innovative insurance solutions from Discovery Insure. These solutions are custom-made to address the risks most specific to their professions, which have been further exacerbated while they try to sustain their livelihoods and those of their staff and clients during the current COVID-19 pandemic.
- We have introduced our Shared-value Insurance offering for the Heavy Commercial Vehicle market to allow our clients to get comprehensive insurance cover for their fleets, as well as access to the next evolution in vehicle technology, the Vitality DriveView device, and great savings of up to 40% on their premiums as a reward for managing their fleet well.

3 年This sounded so great, until now when I want to find out about the cash back after 6 months and get told I need to have maintained Gold status for the fill 6 months yet was not told anywhere that it would be required for the full 6 months. Very disappointed as really needed the 50% of my premiums paid back in cash now. Even in this article it is not stated that about having to have gold for months, it just says reach Gold status.
