?? Celebrating 1 Year of Operational Reports: From a Simple Idea to a Thriving Community

Exactly one year ago, on November 20, 2023, I sat down with a simple goal: to make official updates from the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) more accessible. Back then, my updates were constrained by character limits, scattered posts, and the occasional frustration of hunting through archives. Little did I know that this modest beginning would grow into something that’s touched 170,000+ readers and welcomed 1,891 subscribers.

Today, I’m thrilled to celebrate the first anniversary of Operational Reports, a newsletter that’s become a hub for accurate, accessible, and contextual updates about Ukraine’s fight for freedom. And yes, we’re just getting started. ??

?? How It All Began

Let me take you back to where it started. I was sharing fixed translations of daily AFU reports via LinkedIn posts. It was important work—these reports were official and verified, offering a clear view of what was happening on the ground.

But there were a few problems:

  1. Character Limits: Social media wasn’t designed for detailed updates.
  2. Hard-to-Find Posts: Readers who wanted to revisit old reports had to scroll endlessly.
  3. Jargon Overload: Let’s be honest, military terminology can make your head spin.

So, I decided to start Operational Reports to solve all that. The idea was simple:

  • Create a dedicated space for these updates.
  • Rewrite the reports into readable, engaging articles.
  • Add context where needed, making the information accessible to everyone.

What I didn’t expect was how much this newsletter would resonate.

?? Growing Beyond Expectations

When I launched the newsletter, I had modest hopes. If it reached 200 people, I would’ve considered it a success. Fast forward one year, and here we are:

  • 170,000+ readers have engaged with the articles.
  • 1,900 subscribers have joined the community (and counting!).
  • And now, with the launch of Substack, we’re publishing even more critical content—with 100+ articles already live.

To say I’m overwhelmed with gratitude would be an understatement. The feedback, the shares, and the support from this community have made every late night and early morning worth it.

?? What Makes Operational Reports Unique?

If you’re not familiar with the newsletter yet (what are you waiting for?! ??), here’s why people keep coming back:

  1. Verified Information: Every report is based on official updates from the AFU and DeepState UA—no speculation, no fluff.
  2. Readable Content: Military jargon is simplified into clear, engaging articles.
  3. Context Matters: Whether it’s explaining a counteroffensive or breaking down geopolitics, I make sure you understand not just what’s happening but why it matters.
  4. Critical Content on Substack: Substack gives me the freedom to dive deeper into sensitive topics, offering insights you won’t find anywhere else.

?? Highlights of the Past Year

Looking back, here are some standout moments:

  • Viral Articles: Certain reports, especially ones with added context, sparked meaningful conversations across the platform.
  • Milestone Achievements: Watching the subscriber count climb past 1,000, then 1,500, and now nearing 2,000 was a surreal experience.
  • Community Impact: Your messages, like “This is my daily go-to for updates” or “Thanks for making this war easier to understand,” have been incredibly motivating.

But beyond the numbers, it’s the shared sense of purpose that stands out. Together, we’ve built something that informs, empowers, and amplifies the voices of those fighting for justice.

?? Why Subscribe?

If you’re not part of the Operational Reports community yet, here’s what you’re missing:

  • Daily updates that are accurate and easy to read.
  • Insights that connect the dots between tactical moves and big-picture implications.
  • A space to stay informed, share ideas, and support Ukraine in its fight for sovereignty.

Plus, with Substack, you’ll get access to even more content—including deeper dives and critical articles that go beyond the headlines.

?? Goals for Year Two

Now, let’s dream big:

  • 2,500 Subscribers: Can we do it? With your help, I think we can!
  • More Interactive Content: Your feedback has been invaluable, so I’m exploring ways to make the newsletter more interactive and inclusive.
  • Expanding Reach: From #LinkedIn to Substack (and beyond?), the goal is to bring this content to even more people who care about staying informed and making a difference.

?? Join the Celebration
