As serious and challenging your path through succession can be, you should take time to:
1. Enjoy the journey
2. Celebrate your achievements
3. Take baby steps, an mm forward is a mm of progress
The journey through succession in my view is equally as important as the end goal to transition the business between generations. Throughout this quest you can enjoy the conversations and connections that the process can bring to your family.
Do you believe the saying, "What is not measured is not achieved."
Try to set milestones, achievable ones, that you can meet and beat. Break down the succession process into "bite sized" components. Ensure that you challenge and move forward on these goals regularly with measurable points along the way.
Also, take baby steps. Setting lofty goals is admirable. Most of us mortals prefer setting challenging yet achievable goals. Do this. You will then feel like you can and will make progress on your succession plan.
