Celebrate Your Board, Team, and Volunteers

The holiday season is here.
In the nonprofit world, that means one thing… you’re knee-deep in year-end giving!
Your team, board, and volunteers have been working day in and day out, to make your mission come to life.
We know this can be a stressful time as you work tirelessly to meet your fundraising goals, however, remember: this is also a time for JOY!
We get so caught up in the day-to-day that we forget to STOP and CELEBRATE the people who make every day possible.
Even when you’re hard at work, you can still find time for play. Each year, Brad and I would hold a Christmas party for our Team, complete with snacks, a gift exchange, and all the holiday cheer. We would even dress up and wear fun costumes—and Brad often acted as CEO (Chief Entertainment Officer)!
These parties were so much fun and helped boost our team’s morale at a time of year that can be stressful.
If holiday parties aren't for your organization, there are so many other ways to thank your team and volunteers.
From thoughtful, handwritten notes calling out their achievements to small gifts (gift cards to their favorite coffee shop or a personalized notebook are a couple of our favorites), no gesture is too small!

Don't forget your board members!
Your board brings so many gifts to the table.
From soliciting donations and supporting your events to making connections in your community, board members are a vital piece of the puzzle that allows you to bring your organization’s mission and vision to life!
Fatigue can be common among board members, who are balancing their board responsibilities in addition to their family and work commitments.
Showing your board a little appreciation can go a long way.
When celebrating your board, take into account their unique personalities. Would they prefer to be nominated for a local engagement award, or to receive a handwritten thank you note from your staff?
As long as you ? MAKE IT PERSONAL ? your board members will stay engaged year after year!
What are your favorite ways to celebrate your volunteers, board, and staff members this holiday season? Let's talk about it in the comments!
