Wakulla 4-H is inviting everyone to celebrate Wakulla County’s 177th birthday at a street party with them on Friday, March 13, 2020.
In recognition of Wakulla’s history, Wakulla 4-H has asked the Board of County Commissioners to declare March 8 -14, 2019 as Wakulla Wonderful Week in Wakulla County.
On Friday, March 13 Wakulla 4-H will partner with the Historical Society, the Chamber of Commerce, the Friends of the Library, the Clerk of Court’s office, the Wakulla County Sheriff’s Office, the Crawfordville Lion’s Club, and the Wakulla News to celebrate Wakulla County’s 177th Birthday.
This free community event will feature live music by Coon Bottom Creek band, performances by local school jazz ensembles, a 40 foot long history timeline walk, food trucks, a historical storytelling performance, as well as historical tours of the Old County Jail and Old Courthouse.
High Road will be closed to traffic and the party will begin at 5:45 pm with a jazz ensemble performance on the Old Courthouse lawn where the Wakulla County Chamber of Commerce is currently located. A brief program including a reading of the Wakulla Wonderful Week Proclamation will be held on the courthouse steps at 6:20 pm.
Wakulla Wonderful Week seeks to send a message of recognition and celebration of Wakulla’s 177th birthday. This week will allow time to reflect on the wonderful county we live in and the benefits we have living here.
Wakulla County has a rich and extensive history dating back 12,000+ years! Wakulla County was formed on March 11, 1843 by an act of the Florida Legislature as the 23rd county of Florida.
Wakulla 4-H serves the purpose of educating our citizens and youth, inspiring growth in everyone and pledging our heads to clearer thinking, our hearts to greater loyalty, our hands to larger service, and our health to better living so that our citizens can make Wakulla County even more wonderful. The youth leaders of Wakulla 4-H are working to instill a sense of community pride in their peers with this 4-H civic engagement project.
