Celebrate Success Before Setting New Year Goals or Resolutions
Tracey Gazel
I help senior leaders and executive teams master resilience, focus, and composure under pressure—unlocking their highest level of clarity, decision-making, and leadership presence in today’s high-stakes business world.
Here we are at the end of another year.
Time seems to be speeding up.
With so many things to think about, worry about, learn about, it is easy to be constantly distracted away from the present moment.
And when we are not in the present, time feels very fast and fluid, as if it’s difficult to grasp.
Following the holidays and ushering in a new year, it’s a great time to start thinking about setting your goals or new years resolutions for 2024.
But before you do, I encourage you to do this one thing –
Take some time to reflect on 2023 and everything that went right.
We are so quick to focus on what went wrong and what we want to change, that we rarely slow down, pause, and celebrate our successes.
Sometime during New Years Eve or New Years Day, set aside 10 minutes and pull out your journal, phone, or lap top, and write a list of everything that went well for you this year.
Here are some writing prompts:
What did I work really hard on this year?
What am I most proud of at work?
What are some fitness or health goals that went well?
What relationships did I nurture?
What new things did I learn?
What am I most proud of that happened last year?
This exercise will help you slow down, be present, and reflect on all the good that has happened.
Most people don’t do this.
They are focused on what is going wrong and what they need to change.
Before you set your new year’s resolutions for this year, focus on what went right and what you want to continue to improve on.
Celebrate your success!
Happy New Year,
-Tracey

1 年Ooo, Tracey Gazel... Well put. Remember to celebrate success. Yesterday, I reviewed my 2023 posts, newsletters, calendar events, and journal highlights. Several big things happened earlier in the year that I had forgotten. Appreciate you and your work, Tracey!
