Last year I shared my journey of finding the meaning in celebrating Thanksgiving. It’s been a process of evolution; however, I think it’s safe to say that this Thanksgiving is one like we have never experienced before. It’s been a tough year all around – and more so for those who have family and loved ones directly impacted by the pandemic. We continue to keep you in our thoughts and prayers.
As I celebrate Thanksgiving this year, it will center on being grateful for the silver linings. Let me share a few with you.
- Adversity tells you a lot about people and organizations. I couldn’t be more proud of how we continue to look past the obstacles and rise up time and time again; we have never been more closely connected to our mission as we find ways to deliver for our clients in their time of need. The clarity of our purpose and how what we do matters has never been more clear.
- We have strengthened our connections with clients, each other and with our communities. Our clients have invited us into their homes just as we have invited them into ours – the personal and professional bonds have strengthened significantly. Along those same lines, I couldn’t be more grateful to our amazing FHI team for being there for each other. The collaboration across organizations has been inspiring. Beyond that, we have been amazing pillars of the community finding different ways to continue to give back in this acute time of need for many.
- Personally, I am grateful to have the longest period of stillness in my career affording me the opportunity to spend quality time with my family and find incredible amounts of joy in the most routine things. My family will always look back at this time as one of further strengthening the foundation of our relationships.
- Empathy and compassion have emerged as critical qualities for leaders.
Please enjoy the time off celebrating your silver linings with loved ones. This is a time to rest, reflect and rejuvenate. I wish you all a very Happy Thanksgiving!
P.S. The holiday is off to a great start in the Hussain household. My kids and I have binged through the first 2 seasons of Cobra Kai (continuation of the karate kid movies). Next up is consumption of all DC movies to be ready for the release of Wonder Woman 1984 on Christmas day!
