Celebrate Mistakes

Birds make great sky-circles of their freedom. How do they learn it? They fall, and falling they're given wings. – Rumi

As this year comes to a close, I am reflecting on what I am thankful for in waves and preparing for the next year of adventure.

One of the greatest gifts to us is falling. Struggling. Mistakes.

Strange? Perhaps. But it’s the circle of life and the way of humankind. The answer is to Never Give Up. This applies in social change as the artist of this mural so famously proclaims. And it applies in our daily lives in all things.

I am a person who adopts a continuous improvement mindset in everything I do. I have to explain to people early on that it’s not that I’m a pessimist. It’s not that I am never pleased or content. It’s simply that I know we can always improve. The idea behind this mindset is to look for the imperfections at all times. To find the failures. Then to celebrate how we can continue to improve from there and learn from mistakes. If we embrace the humanity of mistakes, we can celebrate the success of improvement that leads to the most optimal achievement.
