Celebrate Global Talent Acquisition Day!

Global Talent Acquisition (TA) Day is a virtual event brought to life by other talent acquisition professionals around the world. . I think it’s a great time to stop, recognize and celebrate the efforts and impact of your own global recruiting organization.

As I reflect on the people on my Align Technology team from around the world that I work with daily, I’m filled with gratitude – respect – and admiration. This team has scaled our company from a few thousand employees to over 14,000 employees worldwide over the course of just under four years. We are hiring for a wide range of roles, from operators in our fabrication facilities to vice presidents of new business units. Without the heavy lifting from the Talent Acquisition team, we would not be in the place we are today.

I know how hard it can be at times for our recruiters, and I also know what makes them great at what they do. They bring qualities that are irreplaceable -  grit, resilience, focus and determination on the inside, and a sociable, curious and relatable nature on the outside. That perfect combination makes someone a great recruiter, and I’m fortunate to be part of such a wonderful team enthusiastically sharing the Align Technology story with new candidates, employees and potential future employees. 

Recruiting is a specialty that’s typically within the Global Human Resources function and it’s not for everyone. There are highs and lows, twists and turns and things rarely turn out as expected. It can be high pressure, you are in this with the hiring manager from the beginning, and if you are really lucky in your organization, you are involved even before the requisition is opened. Recruiters juggle personalities and process, so competencies in this area are usually around emotional intelligence, agility and quick decision making capabilities. It’s important that we all have the right recruiters for our own organizations as we are tasked with uncovering and enabling hiring teams to make critical decisions that will ultimately impact the bottom line of the company. It all starts with you as the recruiter.
