Celebrate Every Day

Celebrate Every Day

If success deserves to be celebrated, do you keep a Victory Log to record your achievements? It might seem a strange question but there’s an important message to be decoded in today’s blog.

If you haven't heard of it before, a Victory Log is a personal record of every achievement you’ve ever accomplished in your life. I know. It might seem odd because so few people know about this particularly useful tool. The idea of recording every single triumph, achievement or victory seems a little excessive. And it’s easy to understand why. As a species, our survival instincts prompt us to be more aware of difficult, dangerous or painful events. That means we’re more inclined to remember the defeats rather than the successes. And that leads to a distinct bias in our perception. We forget how capable we really are because we focus on the failures rather than the victories. Your personal Victory Log will help you to realign your perception and reinforce your confidence as you recognise how capable and competent you really are. It’s a wonderful means of developing a deep sense of personal empowerment.

Once you begin the project - and today would be a perfect moment to start - you can include anything you like. In the case of the personal Victory Log, the more items, the better. Some people include details that are usually completely overlooked or taken for granted: learning to walk, learning to read and write, getting a star for an essay. Once you begin, the list could easily develop into an encyclopedia of personal triumphs. And it’s a particularly useful resource when you run into challenges. That’s when you can take a few minutes to open your Victory Log and remind yourself that you’re an achiever, a creative force for overcoming obstacles, an unstoppable individual who can overcome any difficulty that you might encounter. In other words, your Victory Log provides instant, positive reinforcement to your capabilities. Some very capable individuals return to their favourite passages in their Victory Log before attending meetings or negotiating contracts. You can imagine the boost to their confidence when they remind themselves that success is a natural consequence of their activities.

Make today the start of something truly remarkable. Re-align your perception with the concepts of personal success, competence, creativity and empowerment. You might be very pleasantly surprised at the outcomes.
