CDTA Celebrates Transit Equity Day

ALBANY, NY (February 4, 2025) The Capital District Transportation Authority (CDTA) will celebrate Transit Equity Day today, February 4, 2025. This is a nationally recognized day that promotes equality and accessibility. The day serves to honor the legacy of Rosa Parks and Claudette Colvin, two pivotal figures in the Civil Rights Movement. Their courageous acts of defiance on public buses helped ignite a movement for justice and equality.

CDTA will be displaying signage on headway signs as well as on infotainment screens on buses. Also, today, February 4, CDTA along with transit properties across the state and the New York Public Transit Association (NYPTA), will be at the New York State Capitol to advocate for increased transit funding.

"CDTA is proud to honor the lives and legacies of Rosa Parks and Claudette Colvin on Transit Equity Day,” said CDTA’s Interim CEO Michael P. Collins. “We also look forward to advocating at the Capitol for more funding. CDTA’s ridership is surpassing what it was pre-pandemic. We have focused on providing better connections, a BRT route network, Universal Access Partnerships and more mobility solutions. Public transit also plays a big role in the economies of the state and our local communities, showing the importance of more funding."

Ridership on transit systems throughout New York is growing, and customers and their communities are demanding more and better service. CDTA and transit properties across the state are looking for a 15% increase in state operating assistance, so transit companies can continue to deliver the services our customers and communities need and deserve.
