The CDP welcomes Officer Hiroshi Yaguchi from Santa Rosa, Calif., to training this week. Yaguchi has worked as a patrol officer at the Santa Rosa Police Department for 12 years and also serves as a Field Training Officer.
This week Yaguchi is attending the Field Force Extrication Tactics (FFE) course.
The FFE course is a three day course which provides emergency responders knowledge and skills regarding the tools and information necessary to extricate an individual safely from a protestor device.
Yaguchi hopes to gain the knowledge and skills he can take back and share with his department in developing an extrication team to be part of their Mobile Field Force Unit.
This is Yaguchi’s second time training at the CDP. He previously attended the Field Force Operations (FFO) course in August 2015. He first learned of the CDP when his department arranged for CDP instructors to come to Sonoma County to train their new Mobile Field Force Unit.
Prior to becoming a law enforcement officer, Yaguchi had a very rewarding career working as a journalist and public relations executive. “I was looking for something different, a change of pace, a different career,” said Yaguchi.
“A friend of mine was in law enforcement. I went on a couple of ride-a-longs with him and it seemed like an interesting challenge. So, I applied with the Santa Rosa Police Department, graduated from the academy and began my new career,” he said.
Yaguchi said his training experience at the CDP has been outstanding! “It is a very rewarding experience here at the Center for Domestic Preparedness and I have really enjoyed it,” he said.
“Instruction is first rate here. You have state-of-the-art facilities, excellent realistic training with very good instruction with very knowledgeable teachers,” said Yaguchi.
CDP training is fully funded for state, local, tribal and territorial responders, including travel, lodging and meals. To learn more about training at the CDP, to view the entire list of courses offered and to register online, click on https://cdp.dhs.gov.
