In an announcement the CDC said, “It is possible for people to be infected through contact with contaminated surfaces or objects (fomites), but the risk is generally considered to be low,” the CDC said, emphasizing the ease of transmission via airborne respiratory droplets".
Recent studies have shown that about 80% of the viral particles are less than 1 micron in size and can remain airborne for longer periods of time.
This means that CDC has deemphasized COVID control through the use of surface disinfectants and will now focus on the control of airborne and particle-borne vectors. They are still recommending masks and social distancing because these reduce the risk of person-to-person transmission via air. Other strategies for reducing the presence of the virus in the air will focus on filtration, ventilation and UV. It also opens the door for a new emphasis on effective indoor air treatment technologies that inactivate the virus.
Environ Safety, https://www.environsafety.com/, is well positioned to take advantage of the new guidance information since they have successfully demonstrated the effectiveness of their products PHI and REME-HALO in controlled scientific studies.
