MESSAGE FROM DEBORA B. FREITAS LóPEZ

This month, we finally got to share the big news: The next International Social and Behavior Change Communication (SBCC) Summit will take place in Panama City from March 23-27, 2026.

After summits in Ethiopia, Indonesia and Morocco, it is exciting to bring the 2026 Summit to the Latin American and Caribbean Region – a region with a rich history of SBCC programs and a growing cadre of young professionals. We are co-chairing the event with the Nigeria-based Centre for Communication and Social Impact and working closely with the rest of our diverse and talented organizing Secretariat.

The fourth SBCC Summit?will be an extraordinary gathering of global thought leaders, practitioners, and advocates dedicated to harnessing the power of communication to transform lives. Building on the momentum of past summits, we will explore innovative approaches to SBCC, empowering communities worldwide to address pressing health, social, and development challenges.

The Summit also will offer a unique platform for multidisciplinary collaboration, fostering meaningful exchanges among professionals in public health and beyond – education, climate action, technology, and many other sectors. The SBCC Summit aims to inspire attendees to reimagine the role of communication in addressing the complexities of our world. Through collective learning and action, we hope that the Summit will help to establish and strengthen partnerships, ignite new ideas, and reinforce SBCC’s critical role in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Whether you are a seasoned professional or new to the field, the 2026 SBCC Summit promises to be a transformative experience that deepens our understanding, expands our network, and equips us all with tools to create lasting change. Together, let us shape a future where communication catalyzes progress for all.
