CCNZ Auckland focuses on Health and Safety Governance.
Chris Alderson
CEO Construction Health and Safety New Zealand at Construction Health and Safety NZ (CHASNZ)
It was fantastic to see over 350 members attend last night's CCNZ Auckland Branch event to hear a variety of topics including governance from a health and safety perspective. In my time at CHASNZ I have always thought that the civil construction industry has always had a leading focus on safety and wellbeing.
Francois Barton , Kirsten (KP) Patterson and I spoke on the changing world of directors' duties and how to make a difference in governing effectively for not only large companies but also the majority of small to medium businesses that make up the sector. Rachel Brooke also spoke of the importance of front line leadership and encouraged all construction businesses to make further investments in this area.
I attach below the slide that I spoke to which describes the types of harm that all organisations should be considering and forming integrated strategies around.
Considering not only critical risk but also catastrophic and chronic risk is vital as different strategies work better for the different types. Risk can also transfer between the types - for example long term impairments such as fatigue and MSDs can become causal factors in critical and catastrophic risk.
CHASNZ has many free industry resources to assist construction contractors and is more than happy to help - get in touch on [email protected].
Thanks again CCNZ Auckland Branch for the opportunity.
