In this special edition of our Newsletter, we are delighted to share highlights from our Annual Assembly that took place during New York Climate Week, where we celebrated CCFLA’s 10th Anniversary and launched our highly anticipated flagship report, the 2024 State of Cities Climate Finance Report (SCCFR), offering the most comprehensive assessment of urban climate flows and needs globally. CCFLA and United Nations ESCAP launched this report as part of the Urban-Act project. It provides a comprehensive analysis of India’s national Enabling Financial Conditions, highlighting strengths and opportunities, and offering recommendations for enhancing subnational climate data, and ensuring coordination from the national to the city level.?

This year, we celebrated our 10th Anniversary, highlighting a decade of dedicated efforts and five transformative years with CPI as the Secretariat, as well as launching the 2024 State of Cities Climate Finance report.??

We’re pleased to announce the newly appointed Co-chairs of CCFLA’s Action Groups:?

  • Finance and Enabling Environment Action Group: Asma Jhina (Global Covenant of Mayors for Climate & Energy (GCoM) x C40), Felicity Spors (Gold Standard), and Jeremy Gorelick (Green Finance Institute)?

  • Project Preparation Action Group: Johanna Granados Alcala (GCoM), Louis Downing (Global Infrastructure Basel Foundation), and Garima Prasai (Resilient Cities Catalyst)?

Our Co-Chairs will guide the strategic direction of their respective Action Groups, collaborate with the CCFLA Secretariat on impactful Learning Sessions, and champion the Groups’ initiatives.

The Project Preparation Action Group hosted its latest Update and Learning Session focusing on the PPF Connector Partnership Assessment Brief and the CCFLA and UrbanAct’s Enabling Framework Conditions Assessment Tools.?

Past Event | Innovate4Cities Accelerating Local Climate Action through Partnerships?

CCFLA’s John Michael LaSalle, along with other experts from ICLEI Africa, The World Bank, CDP, and the University of Melbourne, spoke at the GCoM-Gap Fund Partnership session on "Accelerating Local Climate Action through Partnerships: Navigating the Urban Project Lifecycle." The session explored the complexities of developing urban climate projects and provided a comprehensive guide through the various stages of urban climate project development.??

Past Event | UN Habitat CCUE x PFES CoP – Localizing and Innovating Finance for Urban Climate Action?

CCFLA's Francisco Macedo spoke at UN-Habitat's Community of Practice session jointly organized by the Climate Change and Urban Environment Team and the Planning Finance and Economy Section. The session sought to address key challenges and opportunities in leveraging finance for climate action in cities. It focuseds on innovative financing mechanisms, barriers to accessing climate finance, and strategies for localizing climate finance.?
