Leaders and Coaches: Facing what is, working ‘with the grain’ of who you are, our nature, ecosystems and economy; coming to terms with new realities through enhanced curiosity, presence, choice and relationships.
Our November Explore and Discuss appears to have been particularly powerful and I have had people asking me to write it up for others to see what is happening and potentially feel drawn to join. So here is my follow up note:
We had a great crowd turn up for our Climate Coaching Explore and Discuss session on World Science Day For Peace and Development! After grounding and a best-self visualisation, we broke out into groups to discuss the links we were making between these 6 bold words and to share what we were curious about.
Then small break outs looked at the science-based tools, models and methodology we have learned, that might be used for development in a way that would help to meet climate, ecology, and social justice goals.
We moved straight into ‘what if’, to ‘what is’, using @PhilipHarland ’s Power of 6 process.
Here is what the group were happy to share:
- I have resources I could offer in this topic, and where climate change could meet my other needs
- One of my needs is to feel connected, not connected in the way of daily or paid work, but realising that taking action can be in a different realm, a tiny thing, like a leaf, it doesn’t have to be the whole world.
- In creating the website for my new practice I went with what appealed to me, nature based imagery. I realised that I want to do a lot more out in nature, incorporating nature into the coaching.
- What struck me is the resources that are available, even in such a select group as this, how we need to find ways of, not only communicating, but using that effectively, so the question I would ask is how would you communicate your knowledge base and how would that impact for trying to impact coaching within climate change
- Through my lens, the formation of my ego puts me in certain zones and not others. I need to untie myself from my ego so that I can fully commit to the things I want to without the shoulds and oughts, which is probably also what many of my clients need too.
- I feel drawn to coaching in nature too, we are like leaves. We may feel because of our ego that we are like trees, but we are like leaves!
- The depth with this group was profound.. and the way we can build up this over zoom shows that we can generate that relationship and get the joy from that and the gift that we have is to bring our awareness to people around us, whoever they are. Be ourselves, be grounded and part of it, and to blow with the wind and carry the seed to appreciate the world around us and appreciate humanity wherever we are.
- Noticing what is really important to me. Being grounded in that creates a current even if there are waves on top, there is a current towards what I am working toward.
- Bubbling up is about small iterative actions and small safe to fail experiments and my line is going toward questioning and having the courage to put out into the world powerful questions that call forth thinking and encouraging other s to ask their big difficult questions.
- Zoom is wonderful it's really really powerful And it's that collective aspect to make sense of climate change however we process it doing it collectively small powerful . I feel myself shifting from want one to group to collective . And at also like to invite nature as a Co facilitator more.
- What if I lived more in tune with my authentic self (And after I had a little fight with myself in the middle) I realised what if I just keep this simple life that enables me to live more authentically and focus on what's really important to me. I can connect with people but keep it simple (which means probably not within an organisation) keep my creativity and joy in life rather than getting subsumed back into the busyness of a ‘normal’ job.
So my thanks to @AndyKing for sharing the ending process in the AC Newbury co-coaching group the night before and reminding me of the process, which was well worthwhile – I feel he would be very happy with the effect it's had on this group and the ripple effect that will go out from here. As @LucyWest said, “the model of stealing something from yesterday and bringing it today may well help others to find the courage to do the same”.
I am profoundly struck by how poignant the learning in this session seems to have been for everyone and how worthwhile the effort and time was, because the value that will go from this is plain to see. We have a very special group of coaches here, who are prepared to be at their best in the climate coaching space.

4 年Huge thanks Lorenza Clifford and the others who participated so deeply in this experience on zoom It really proves that we can develop trust and confidence on-line with a group. Well done!
