In this week’s edition we see there is a new panel by NCERT and Sudha Murthy and Shankar Mahadevan are on the committee. UGC has updated their draft guidelines for the? IDPs. India’s first AI school inaugurated in Kerala. Also, BRICS nations are looking at an autonomous university ranking system. Plus, CBSE is set to conduct board exams twice a year, and Union minister VK Singh claims the centre is going to establish medical colleges in all districts.
CBSE to Conduct Board Exam Twice a Year
Board examinations will be conducted twice a year from AY 2024-25. Students will have the option to retain the best score. Class 11 and 12 students will have to study two languages instead of one, one of which has to be an Indian Language. These regulations are in accordance with the new National Curriculum Framework.?Read more here.
UGC Updates Draft for Foreign Educational Institutes
UGC released an updated draft of guidelines to prepare an Institutional Development Plan. New recommendations include private sector partnerships, a ranking system for faculty members and increasing undergraduate seats for higher revenues. They also regulate entry and operations of Foreign Universities, Institutions in India to conduct UG, PG, doctoral, post-doctoral, and other programmes, and award degrees, diplomas, and certificates in all disciplines. Sudha Murthy and Shankar Mahadevan on NCERT Panel
NCERT establishes a committee to finalise curriculum and learning material for classes 3 to 12. Members include Sudha Murthy, and Shankar Mahadevan among others. This move aims to align the curriculum with the National Curriculum Framework for School Education (NCF-SE) and enhance teaching quality. The committee will also revise textbooks for classes 1 and 2. Centre Aims for One Medical College Per District
During the 38th annual convocation of the Vellore Institute of Technology (VIT), Union Minister V. K. Singh, said that the government has aimed to have at least one medical college in each district of the country. G. Viswanathan, founder-chancellor, VIT (Vellore), said that the Union government should increase the allocation of funds for higher education from the existing 3% of the GDP to 6% to bring more rural students into higher studies.
