About CBN insert

Cubic boron nitride insert ,we usually call it CBN insert ,It is artificially synthesized with cubic boron nitride powder and a small amount of bonding under high temperature and high pressure conditions. Its hardness is second only to diamond and much higher than other materials. And also its thermal stability and chemical Inert is much higher than diamond, especially it has greater chemical stability to iron-based metal elements.so it mainly used in gray cast iron, wear-resistant cast iron, various high-hardness materials (such as cold and hot tool steel, high-speed steel, bearing steel, powder metallurgy steel, powder metallurgy, martensitic stainless steel, high-strength steel , High manganese steel, white cast iron, austenitic iron, etc.).

It including Solid CBN and Tipped CBN .

At the earlier ,Tipped CBN used widely , which were characterized by high-speed and high-efficiency machining and even can achieve "turning instead of grinding"machining method . However, in the actual production of cutting, there have many intermittent machining on hardened steels. and also when machining hard cast iron, gray cast iron, and white cast iron, tipped CBN often chipped, so solid CBN appeared.

Tipped CBN mainly used for finishing machining under continuous processing ,as it have good wear-reistance and heat resistance , but its toughness and impact resistance is not good ,so it cannot withstand larger cutting force.and also the machining depth advise less than 0.2mm .and it must work under high-speed cutting  (low speed not recommend).

Solid CBN can be processed intermittently, and it will not collapse when encountering white cast iron . In actual applications, if tipped CBN collapsesed, or need rough &finishing machining shared with one insert ,Solid CBN insert can be better solve this problem and have a good performance on it .

The use of CBN insert is a major contribution to metal processing, leading to revolutionary changes in cutting industrial , It is a great breakthrough in cutting technology.
