CBC audience votes against volunteering?!

If I wrote a Blues track, it would be called... "born at a bake sale", but no need to be sad, laughter is the BEST medicine! Enter CBC/Radio-Canada show, hosted by Canada's punmaster general Steve Patterson
For those of you in Volunteer-world this is a MUST listen https://bit.ly/ShouldEveryoneVolunteer_CBCDebaters - yes you will LAUGH, even the board treasurer.
Just 17 minutes, a great listen by masterful comedians in front of a live community audience who votes: "be it resolved, Should everyone volunteer?"
But you will also confront ( thanks to comedians Maddy Kelly and Charlie Demers ) some healthy truths about modern volunteering. And I have to say, better than I ever could.
This is why in the years to come, I hope to HOST Steve at a philanthropy edition of this show at a conference or gathering. I certainly would like to hear Derek Seguin
debate Francophilanropie. But this is the kind of unique truth telling much needed these days... would love to hear your thoughts AFTER you listen.
Want to know more about how #volunteering can change? In own my home town, Volunteer Toronto signed this odd #DencentWork charter? Why? Thanks The Philanthropist Journal for unpacking why volunteerism isn't the only solution to our current crisis.
I'm excited in my public speaking, to be sharing a better volunteering vision too. If you are giving your time, there is a difference in using your brain, your career experience and your labour... as in boards and professional associations are volunteering, but different than packing food at a food bank, running in a fundraiser or delivering food with meals on wheels. We should make a diverse portfolio of time-giving, just like we do with money. Perhaps, even more important as time is even more precious.
Especially on #InternationalWomensDay these debaters as great questions about gender lines and volunteering... same as it ever was?
Decide for yourself, tune in to the debate!
In the meantime, don't keep repeating the same volunteering soundtrack year after year after year. I know your parents all have pins, and volunteer service awards and funny hats ... what was the impact? Here, this song will help:
