UK-China Business Forum 2023

CBBC?hosted the first major UK-China?business forum?since the pandemic earlier this month, which was attended by over 200 delegates. Speakers from?Government, Industry, Finance, and Academia?spoke on?topics?ranging from?Green Finance to China’s dynamic consumer market, and technological collaboration.

Here are some of the?key takeaways from the conference:

  • There has never been a?better opportunity for businesses to do business with China.?
  • Last year the UK’s exports to China?rose to over £31 billion – supporting 130,000 UK jobs. But there is scope for much more. With 500 million middle class consumers, China’s spending power makes it a critical market.
  • As the voice and the vehicle for UK-China business for over 65 years, the?China-Britain Business Council has an essential role to help its Members?and the wider business community develop their business in China.
  • The UK is one of the fastest growing sources of investment capital into China.?Trade-wise, the UK’s relationship with China is absolutely vital.
  • By 2030?China will be the world’s largest economy with 23.5% of global GDP?and half a billion consumers.
  • China will further reduce barriers?to entry, including lowering tariffs, and cutting down the negative list of items not able to be exported to China.

50-years of UK-China Ambassadorial Relations Dinner Reception in Beijing

CBBC celebrated 50-Years of UK-China Ambassadorial Relations?with a dinner reception at the InterContinental Hotel Sanlitun on 21st March in Beijing.

The dinner brought together the British and Chinese Government and business communities to celebrate the long-standing relationship between the UK and China.?During the evening our speakers looked back on the last 50-years while sharing their reflections on the importance of the relationship today and into the future. The dinner was originally scheduled to take place last year but was delayed to March 2023 due to challenges with zero covid policies.

Together with our member company,?TONG?digital -?a cross-cultural agency - we will take a look at development of China’s different consumer groups and show you how to best succeed in the China market.
