Happy 2023!?This month celebrates Chinese New Year, the Year of the Rabbit. It will be the first Lunar New Year public holiday since 2020?without domestic travel restrictions in China.
In Chinese culture, the sign of the rabbit is a symbol of peace, prosperity, and longevity. 2023 is predicted to be a year of hope, and we certainly have?high hopes for UK-China trade and investment,?and for those invested in China’s relationship with the world.
Following the?re-opening of China’s borders to quarantine free travel,?several major financial and media institutions, including JP Morgan, Schroders, Morgan Stanley, and the Economist Intelligence Unit, have sounded positive notes about the Chinese economy and raised their growth forecasts.?

CBBC's Westminster Briefing?
As we enter 2023 the landscape continues to evolve with the?UK Government's upcoming revised version of the integrated review, China's reopening of its borders and, along with it, the prospect of senior-level engagement returning.
On 10th January CBBC's Chief Executive, Andrew Seaton, provided members with his perspective on developments within Westminster and what UK business can expect for the coming year. Andrew gave a briefing on?recent developments in policy towards China?on the part of the UK government, and in Parliamentary views.
Andrew also spoke about the work that CBBC is doing to emphasise to policymakers the importance to the UK economy, exports, and jobs of the?China business opportunity.
In response to a question he said that the news of the end of Covid restrictions, and the possible resumption of travel, would be?very positive both for business and for government-to-government?contact and dialogue.

CBBC x?University?of?Birmingham?Auto Roundtable
On 10th January CBBC and the Birmingham C.A.S.E. Automotive Research & Education Centre?successfully held a roundtable on developments and advances for commercial vehicles and new energy at the University of Birmingham on 10th January, supported by Silverstone Technology Centre, the Northern Automotive Alliance, and UK Chinese Society of Automotive Engineers, with live streaming service provided by Gasgoo Automotive.
