Cavco’s Cabins Steal the Show at Glamping Expo

Cavco’s Cabins Steal the Show at Glamping Expo

For the uninitiated, glamping (short for glamour camping) combines “hints” of traditional camping with the amenities of home — bathrooms, showers, a kitchen, beds, flat screen TVs, even couches and recliners. If it sounds too good to be true, it is, especially if you experience a Cavco park model cabin. They take glamping to a new level.

Cavco displayed two of its stunning Creekside Cabin models (see pictures below) at Glamping Show Americas 2024, held in Aurora, Colorado, September 30 – October 2. Cavco park model cabins are so luxurious, resorts that have purchased them are fetching up to $2,800 for a single overnight stay. Yes, they are that nice.

One of the two Cavco Creekside models has a roof deck that runs the length of the cabin; perfect for star gazing or throwing an elegant party. The other features a spacious, lofted bedroom that overlooks a beautiful kitchen, living room and dining area. Both models feature rich wood floors, walls and ceilings. It’s exactly what you’d want in the cabin of your dreams.

According to Tim Gage, Vice President, National VP Park Models, Cabins and Specialty Products: “It’s fun to see the array of unique glamping options on display at the expo, but when you see visitors’ reactions to our cabins, it’s apparent that we are the leader in this industry.”

Cavco’s Creekside Cabins stole the show, even though there were many unique, eye-popping glamping options on-site, including luxury stagecoaches, teepees, glass houses that mimic igloos and others popular in Europe.

A Different Market

While Tim and his team build several different style types of ANSI-coded units, the glamping sector represents about 50-60% of their business, depending on the season. The customers are primarily high-end hoteliers and resorts. Also, they have great relationships with the national parks. For example, there are several Cavco cabins in or near national parks, including Yosemite, Glacier and Yellowstone. Another upcoming Yosemite project will include 104 Cavco cabins cantilevered together and looking out over beautiful Yosemite Valley.

Cavco's cabin construction takes advantage of reclaimed lumber thanks to great relationships Tim and his team have built with leading outdoor retailers Cabela’s and Bass Pro Shops. Both corporations have facilities in the hundreds of thousands of square feet where they store left over materials that can be reclaimed. Purchasing and using these materials is both cost effective and environmentally friendly.

Patent Will Help Keep Cavco Ahead of the Competition

Earlier this year, Cavco received its first patent from the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. The design patent is for a “Hybrid Cabin/Tent Portable Dwelling”. It’s an inventive and unique design that combines a beautiful and ornate tented patio with a framed structure that protects the kitchen and bathroom. It is simply exquisite. Tim and his team had already sold several of the hybrid cabins while the patent was pending. Buyers are lining up; when people see them, they want them.

“There are 3 national glamping expos remaining,” said Tim. “I know we’ll replicate the positive feedback and terrific results we experienced at Glamping Show Americas. The glamping sector is growing by leaps and bounds and Cavco cabins will be a large part of that growth.”

Very cool! I think it is very ironic what was called a trailer decades ago, for the lower income bracket has emerged as secondary "discretionary" ADU for the well off. Change is the only constant. They look great! I don't need one, but I would love to have one! #glamping #cavco #glampingexpo #adu #cabinfever

Glamping is an interesting phenomenon where the mobile home recapitulates its origins a century ago as the plaything of the rich. Thorstein Veblen threw a major wrench in the works of rationalist economics, arguing that in fact people bought big ticket items motivated by 'conspicuous consumption' or 'conspicuous leisure'. Glamping dramatizes the latter and the amazing popularity of glamping mobile homes tells us much as to how manufactured should be marketed in comparison to site built. Where site built has been quite successful at marketing by way of conspicuous consumption, manufactured must market by way of conspicuous leisure: https://youtu.be/ITOShMnueSo?si=VqsAvTGzcHM3O-Z2
