A Cautionary Tale....
Adam Hollier
Commercial photographer that keeps getting asked back ?? Headshots | events | branding | product | video | studio. Author of Tring People-Portraits of a Town.
A friend rang me in a panic.
He'd taken an image off the internet and used it on his website.
Then he received an email from one of the largest stock photography companies in the world asking him to pay up as he doesn't have a license (or agreement) to use the image.
How they found him, I've no idea.
Then they emailed again asking for an additional £50 as he hadn't paid up.
So in total, unless he can appeal, he'll have to pay in excess of £200.
For a single image, innocently taken from the internet.
A Simple Solution...
Years ago I was contacted by a young guy who was starting up a plumbing business and he wanted his own stock imagery to use on his website and social media platforms.
We discussed what he wanted to get out of it and my prices and we put together a detailed plan of exactly what he needed to set up (working under sinks, at a boiler, beside his van, fixing a toilet..)
In a hour's shoot (for less than £200) he came away with 30+ images that highlighted him as an brand and showcased his skills. But it also showed he cared enough to get his own authentic stock imagery done.
The Moral of the Story...
Don't take images off the internet!
