Causes and solutions for the condenser fan not running

The condenser fan is an important component in the air conditioning system. Its function is to dissipate the heat in the condenser to the outside, reduce the pressure and temperature of the refrigerant, and improve the air conditioning effect.

If the condenser fan does not turn, the air conditioning cooling effect will decrease, and even cause the compressor to overheat or damage.

So, what are the reasons for the condenser fan not turning? How to solve it? This article will answer this question:

1. Refrigerant leakage:

Refrigerant leakage is one of the most common reasons for the condenser fan not turning. When the refrigerant leaks, the compressor cannot exhaust, the condenser has no temperature, and the fan cannot sense the start signal. At this time, there is no refrigerant evaporation in the evaporator in the car, so no cool air comes out.

2. Insufficient power supply voltage:

The starting voltage requirement of the air conditioner may not be met, resulting in the fan not being able to operate normally. This may be caused by insufficient battery power, poor circuit contact, fuse burnout, etc.

3. Poor contact of the main control switch:

The main control switch is the switch that controls the operation of the air conditioning system. If the contact is poor, it will affect the normal operation of the air conditioning system. Use a multimeter to measure the resistance of the main control switch contacts. If the resistance is too large or zero, it may need to be repaired or replaced.

4. Damage to the fan motor coil:

The fan motor coil is the power source for the fan to rotate. If the coil is damaged, the fan will not work. Use a multimeter to measure the resistance of the fan motor coil. If the resistance is too large or zero, it may need to be repaired or replaced.

5. Poor ventilation of the condenser:

If the condenser is not ventilated well, it will affect the heat dissipation, causing the compressor to not work properly and the fan may not rotate at high speed. This may be caused by a blockage in the heat dissipation net in front of the condenser or the vehicle being parked in a high temperature environment.

6. System pressure protection:

The air conditioning system has a pressure protection device that automatically cuts off the power supply to protect the compressor from damage when the system pressure is too high or too low. This may be caused by too much or too little refrigerant, or too high or too low ambient temperature.

7. Compressor starter failure: The compressor starter is a device that controls the start and stop of the compressor. If the starter fails, the compressor will not work, thus affecting the operation of the entire air conditioning system.

8. The condenser is too dirty: If there is too much dust or oil on the surface of the condenser, the heat exchange efficiency will be reduced, resulting in an increase in system pressure and triggering high-pressure protection.

In order to solve the problem of the condenser fan not turning, it is recommended to go to a regular repair shop for inspection, connect a pressure gauge, and check the refrigeration system pressure. If no pressure is detected, it is determined that the refrigerant is leaking. Then evacuate again and find the leak point. After repairing, refill the refrigerant.

If the pressure is normal but the fan still does not turn, you can follow the steps below to troubleshoot:

Operation method:

1. Check whether the battery power, fuse, circuit wiring, etc. are normal;

If there is an abnormality, repair or replace.

2. Check whether the main control switch is working properly and whether it is loose or damaged;

If there is an abnormality, repair or replace.

3. Check whether the fan motor coil is short-circuited or broken;

If there is an abnormality, repair or replace.

4. Check whether the heat dissipation net in front of the condenser is blocked or damaged;

If there is an abnormality, clean or replace.

5. Check whether the compressor starter is working properly and whether it is loose or damaged;

If there is any abnormality, repair or replace it.

6. Check whether there is dust or oil on the surface of the condenser;

If there is any abnormality, clean or replace it.
