Based in Harrogate, Cause UK has led a number of local community projects over the years, including organising and securing the BBC springwatch team to so a series of events aligned to the Nidderdale Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty with Chris Packham and Steve Backshall, which covers half the Harrogate District in 2021 and more recently the Harrogate Action on Climate Change initiative with Iolo Williams and Martin Hughes-Games.
We also organised for film Director Ken Loach to give a talk and film screening in aid of the Harrogate Homeless Project at the Wesley Centre in Harrogate. This was also aligned with the Harrogate Film Festival. Cause UK donated net proceeds of ticket sales to the Harrogate Homeless project.??
For the same film festival, we booked Brian Blessed to give a talk/performance at the Royal Hall in Harrogate.?Brian kindly donated our fee to book him to animal charities close to his heart.
Last year we produced a play called ‘The Man Who Captured Sunlight’ telling the story of former Harrogate mayor, Samson Fox.?This was a labour of love and working with Doctor Who writer Gavin Collinson, actors Edward and Freddie Fox and local historian, the late Malcolm Neesam, we worked with two charities the Royal Hall Restoration Trust and the Harrogate Amateur Dramatic Society, donating proceeds of ticket and programme sales and involving a community group of volunteer actors in the production.
It is important for the team to engage with the local community to uphold our values that people planet and profit have equal consideration in everything we do, from operating a paperless office, reducing our carbon footprint by operating electric company cars to engaging only in ethical businesses that also make a difference to our society.?This includes charities, good causes, social enterprises, environmental groups and lobbying organisations.

A list of some of the campaigning work we have done over the years includes:
Environmental work includes representing the Nidderdale AONB, championing its work to safeguard and protect the landscape, wildlife, heritage and farming, taking place across half the Harrogate District,?Recent work includes highlighting unique tree planting software developed by the AONB on Channel 4 News, how farmers are protecting nesting Curlews and how refugees feeling war, have been welcomed into the AONB and taking part in volunteer landscape projects, to boost well-being.
100% of Cause UK’s work has purpose, this year the team have been working to support Free Tibet, to highlight human rights abuses and the destruction of Buddhist sites in the media, as well as the Care Foundation in Pakistan which aims to educate 1 million children by 2025.
All employees and Cause UK freelancers work on at least one pro bono and paid for charity project per year.??Whether pro bono or paid for all projects are given equal time, weight and energy.?
5-7% of Cause UK’s turnover is donated to charitable causes per year.?This includes the value equivalent to time donated to projects.
We work with over 10 freelances at any given time in the year.?Employees who have been recognised for community work includes, Director Clair Challenor-Chadwick who won the Director of the Year, twice (2014 and 2021) at the Institute of Director’s Awards for her work in sustainability, public not for profit work across Yorkshire and the Humber.
All employees have access to free marketing, training and support via google and Reuters certified courses.
