Catholic Filmmaking Breakdown | The Date (Intern Passion Project)

This Catholic Filmmaking Breakdown is extra special because it showcases the fruits of one of Spirit Juice Studios’ unique opportunities. Ben Barron, an aspiring filmmaker, spent the summer participating in the Spirit Juice internship program and recently completed his “passion project”—a short film entitled The Date. The passion project gives interns the opportunity to use the resources, equipment, staff and expertise of Spirit Juice Studios to bring their ideas in front of the camera in the production of their own film.

In this video, Ben talks through the process of shooting his passion project film and finally seeing an idea he had nurtured for years come to life with real actors on a real set. Ben and the other interns are tasked with planning, directing and editing their passion projects from start to finish, giving them a holistic view of the filmmaking process and the time, skills and effort involved in producing quality work.?

For Ben, the experience allowed him to make crucial creative decisions in the moment during production and take complete ownership of his film. It is evident that he is very proud of what he was able to accomplish, and the Spirit Juice team is grateful for the opportunity to work with him on a variety of projects throughout his internship as well as helping to fuel his passion project.
