Catherine Donaldson - Learning Content Writer: What I have achieved in six months
Six months ago Catherine joined Olano as our Learning Content Writer. We caught up with her to see what she has achieved in that time...
Do you enjoy your role?
"So much! I really enjoy being able to do what I love as a career. I’ve enjoyed pushing the boundaries of my writing and expanding my knowledge within the Learning & Development industry."
What does a general day look like for you?
"After getting into the office, I check Olano's LinkedIn and any relevant news related to our industry then my day could go anywhere. I could be writing blog posts for our company, creating learning content for a client, mapping out storyboards for a project or engaging on social media.
"My days are so varied, which is what makes them so fun!"
What skills have you developed since starting the role?
"I’ve been able to develop my writing style because I write for so many different clients. The way I need to write for Olano has allowed me to develop variety in my writing too.
"The role has furthered my skill in adapting my writing styles and taught me to be able to switch between the different mindsets needed for each client. Sometimes, I could be working on three different projects in one day, so you have to be able to jump in and out of things easily!"

Can you give an insight into the Olano culture and what it is like working within the team?
"The team has been so welcoming and I clicked with everyone almost instantly. Even though at the time of joining there were lockdown restrictions still in place everyone found a way to communicate and make an effort to make me feel comfortable.
"Since restrictions have been lifted it’s been an even better environment too. It’s great to be in a team that likes to socialise and gets on so naturally, there’s never any concern that you haven’t got the support there."
Tell us something you have learned about the world of eLearning
"I’d probably say I’ve learned about the need to have an extremely open mind with my creativity because eLearning has to be engaging. We’ve all done eLearning and felt that feeling of becoming bored and disengaged, however, after six months I’ve learned how to combat this by using varied techniques and media."
?
What is your proudest achievement in the role so far?
"My proudest achievement was being nominated for ‘Best Newcomer’ at our wider NA Group’s annual conference after such little time here because it showed that my efforts had been recognised and have made a difference, which I really wasn’t expecting!
"I haven’t felt appreciated like this in a job before, so it was nice to feel like I had been doing well and to be considered for such an award."
