Cathedrals' Workshop Fellowship Retains Patronage of His Majesty King Charles III

We are delighted to announce that the Cathedrals' Workshop Fellowship (CWF) is one of the charities to have retained the Patronage of His Majesty the King.

Following the accession to the throne of His Majesty King Charles III in September 2022, a review of over 1,000 Royal Patronages and charity Presidencies has been conducted. The outcome of the review has been announced to coincide with the first anniversary of the Coronation on 6th May 2024. The review process carefully evaluated each Patronage, considering factors such as historical Royal connections, organisational prominence, and alignment with His Majesty's areas of interest. Recommendations were then presented to His Majesty for approval.

His Majesty became Patron of the CWF as The Prince Of Wales in 2005, in recognition of our work to maintain and develop heritage craft skills and His Majesty’s personal interest in conservation and heritage skills development.? His Majesty has visited a number of our cathedral members over the years, and always shows a particular interest in the work of the stonemasons and other crafts people.

On receiving the news Frances Cambrook said, "We are pleased and honoured that His Majesty King Charles III is continuing his Patronage of the CWF. His ongoing support acknowledges the importance His Majesty places on the preservation of heritage crafts, particularly during a time when there are significant skill shortages in the UK."

Carolyn Bruce, Executive Director of Chester Cathedral and Chair of the CWF Trustees, shared her thoughts on the retention of Patronage, saying, "The continuation of His Majesty King Charles III's Patronage of the CWF is a testament to the organisation's dedication to safeguarding heritage crafts. We are grateful for His Majesty's ongoing support, which enables us to pursue our mission of promoting traditional skills and advancing heritage conservation."

The retention of ?His Majesty the King’s Patronage underscores the CWF’s commitment to its mission. As we continue our work, we do so with gratitude for His Majesty's support and a renewed determination to promote traditional skills and heritage conservation.
