After being away from perming/waving a number of years and becoming a specialist in Japanese Thermal Straightening (which I love) for the past 13-15 years. I want to offer my thoughts on what I see happening again.
Texture has a new importance in fashion again! Our clients are now looking for this with their hair as well. Hair should not only have length (short or long) and color but also texture. Whatever texture is given, will be the foundation of the finished design in combination with a great haircut.
Hair is an expression of one’s self. Rather than put perm rods in a standard perm wrap I, at Bloom Beauty Lounge, N.Y.C., create a design wrap using pin curls, velco rollers and combinations of different perming tools to suite each individual style.
The days of cold waves, damaged hair and strong odor give welcome to protein perms and perms that leave the hair in excellent condition. I now use perms that are technically different than in the past. I was recently cerified in “American Wave”. Arrojo waves are someting to experience as well as the wrapping techniques. Hair is more comable and manageable for the client at home. The finished wave should look great the day of the service, not after the next haircut!
Many stylists now have the mastery of the most current technology. They can now offer superior services to women and men that last a few weeks to a few months.
