Meet Thornton, Biechlin, Reynolds & Guerra's Professional Liability Team
Richard is a Member and Director in the San Antonio office. He serves as the Firm’s managing member. Richard is the head of the Firm’s Professional Liability Section with a substantial portion of his practice devoted to the representation of lawyers, accountants, financial and insurance professionals. During his career, he has tried in excess of 100 cases, both jury and non-jury, the vast majority of which have been jury trials.
How Richard keeps things in perspective during COVID:
I am thankful every day, first for the health of my family and loved ones, and after that for the remarkable staff that we are blessed to have at our firm.
Scott is a Member and Director in the San Antonio office. Scott’s practice concentrates on the defense of claims and ethics complaints against real estate agents, real estate litigation, engineers, and non-medical professional liability. Scott is a frequent continuing education speaker for the San Antonio Board of Realtors and other realtor groups, as well as for attorneys and insurance adjusters. He also conducts real estate risk management training for brokers in San Antonio and the surrounding area. Scott is proud to be a fifth-generation lawyer. After admission to the Texas Bar, he joined the family-owned title company where he practiced with his father and grandfather.
How Scott keeps things in perspective during COVID:
COVID has helped me develop my bicycle maintenance skills. My bicycle is my escape machine after working at home all day. Being homebound, as we all are, has increased my appreciation for the simple things in life, like cooking a nice meal instead of dining out, spending time with friends and family or calling and old friend and catching up.
Michael is a Member in the San Antonio office and head of the firm’s Health Law and Employment Law Sections. Michael’s practice areas include medical malpractice defense and labor and employment law. Michael represents employers throughout Texas in defense of discrimination/retaliation claims, FLSA wage and hour matters, and other employment-law related litigation along with providing guidance to employers with respect to labor and employment law issues. Michael also defends nurses, physicians, and hospitals related to health care liability claims throughout Texas.
How Michael keeps things in perspective during COVID:
Early on in the pandemic, my wife and I realized how much we missed socializing and entertaining with friends. This was something we took for granted mere weeks earlier. One weekend, I decided to smoke several racks of ribs for our friends – dubbed “BBQ for Friends.” Over the next several months, we received reciprocal dinners from friends sharing old family recipes and traditions. What was initially a small gesture ultimately helped us all navigate an unprecedented time and remain connected in our community. It definitely reminded me to embrace time with family and friends given how quickly life can unexpectedly change.
Shavonne is a Member in the San Antonio office. Shavonne’s practice focuses on the representation of non-medical professionals, including attorneys, certified public accountants, insurance agents, architects, and real estate agents in professional liability defense matters in various civil and federal courts. Shavonne is an active member of the San Antonio Bar Association, Bexar County Women’s Bar Association, and San Antonio Writers Guild. She is a graduate of the inaugural class of the Bexar County Women’s Bar Foundation LEAD Academy. Shavonne speaks both English and Spanish.
How Shavonne keeps things in perspective during COVID:
I have rediscovered the value of the phone call during the pandemic. It is important to check-in daily with your family, friends and coworkers. Raising a one-year old during the pandemic has presented unexpected challenges, but allowed me to spend more time with my son while working from home.
