Catching Up with Taryn E. Shucha

Taryn Shucha , winner of a 2020 National Merit 美国明尼苏达大学双城分校 Scholarship, studied dance along with theatre tech and design while earning her bachelor of arts degree. During her senior year, Taryn enjoyed a once-in-a-lifetime study abroad opportunity. She says, "I had the opportunity to study abroad in Dublin, Ireland, during my last year of university. While in Ireland, I had the incredible experience of interning at CoisCéim Dance Theatre, an internationally recognized professional dance company. I acted as the assistant stage manager for the world premiere of their show Palimpsest and got to really immerse myself in the workplace culture of Ireland. I would advise any students who are considering studying abroad to really jump into the culture and immerse yourself; you’ll meet so many incredible people." Taryn is now employed at the University of Minnesota's McNamara Alumni Center as an event services coordinator while also freelancing as a stage manager for Twin Cities theater productions.

"The performing arts are all about storytelling," Taryn shares. "I love the process of creating and shaping stories to share with all kinds of audiences. There's something about storytelling that breaks down boundaries and prompts initiative for change in ways that nothing else does."
